What Bugs You? Here's My Bug List
Why? The bracelet shouldn't be easy to take off, so the clasp is secure.
4. When Barnes & Noble’s website says they have a new book in stock at your local store,
- When my phone dies because it’s too cold outside (freezing temperatures)
Why? The lithium-ion battery contains electrolyte solution that freezes in freezing temperatures,
preventing electricity from properly flowing through the battery.

- When a zipper gets stuck on the zipper track
Why? The zipper isn’t reinforced on the other side of the track so it may slip off when it catches
on fabric or is pulled apart manually from the track.

but the local store hasn’t yet put the book on the shelf and you have to wait for an employee
to find the box of that particular book in inventory to pull it out for you to buy
Why? The store doesn’t collect nor have the infrastructure in place to collect real-time inventory
data that distinguishes what is actually on the shelf from what has arrived in the back room.
- Leaving cabinets and drawers open
Why? Cabinets and drawers are not designed to close themselves for the most part.
- When trees uproot sidewalks
Why? Sidewalks are made out of concrete which hardens completely and cannot endure the
pressure of growing tree-roots, so they get moved/cracked.

- Automatic Windows updates (always at the most inconvenient times at work)
Why? Windows doesn’t have a postpone setting or reminder option when you are turning on your
computer again, when it had been previously scheduled to update. It should only update in that
scenario if it asks for permission again.

Why? Advertising has been a huge source of revenue for many companies, at the expense of

Reflection
I believe this list was challenging to create, because the majority of the things that bug us are
a product of our preferences, and not the actual functionality, design, or process of something
that is inefficient. This list was difficult to write-up, due to the many preferences I had to filter
through to find examples of “bugs” where opportunity currently exists for improvement or a solution.

ReplyDeleteHey Jenna! I personally can relate to many of the bugs you listed! I find them so funny because they are everyday things that happen on the regular. A lot of points you made I didn't even think about until I read them on your blog. I can really relate to the uprooted sidewalks and washing your car during the spring season. I'm curious if having dead bugs on your car from driving a long distance bother you, too. In Gainesville, it is very inconvenient walking through sidewalks on campus that are cracked and uneven due to really old trees. Overall, really good and creative list!

Hi Jenna,
ReplyDeleteI thought your bug list was interesting. I do agree that excessive/wasteful packaging also bugs me. I lost count of the times I've ordered something online and when the package arrives it is much larger than it needed to be. Just think of all those beautiful trees that were used to make packaging material that goes to waste after one use. I think that's a shame.
Great Post!
